    SIUE Concert Jazz Band featuring SIUE Alumni

    4382_siu_edwardsville__cougars-wordmark-2007   One of the Midwest’s premier jazz programs, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is the alma-matter for many of the St. Louis area’s top jazz musicians.  This performance will celebrate the continuing tradition of jazz education that SIUE is known for, as well as feature many of the program’s most noted alumni including guitarist Rick Haydon and saxophonist Jason Swagler.

    Twilight Tuesday: Michael Fitzgerald Jazz‑Tribute to Miles Davis and David Sanborn

    220px-David_Sanborn_2008_2   David Sanborn is an American alto saxophonist. Though Sanborn has worked in many genres, his solo recordings typically blend jazz with instrumental pop and R&B.

    Jazz Meets Classical - In the 20th Century and Beyond

    martinhalen650   Jazz Meets Classical - In the 20th Century and Beyond Featuring jazz pianist and composer Peter Martin and violinist David Halen at the Sheldon Concert Hall in Grand Center Peter Martin, music director for jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, recently wrote a major jazz/classical work for the 100th Anniversary of The Sheldon, combining top jazz musicians and a string quartet of David Halen and members of the Symphony. We’ll hear excerpts from that exciting composition and other music combining the best of jazz and classical music.

    Jazz-Fest-2014-show-banner-e1384374538678   As part of the 2014 Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival, presented by UMSL, The Touhill, and Jazz St. Louis, Jazz at the Bistro welcomes the return of pianist Reggie Thomas to St. Louis with an all-star quartet featuring bassist Rodney Whitaker, along with St. Louis area greats Willie Akins on tenor sax and Montez Coleman on drums. This special quartet will come together for one night only on Thursday, April 24th for two sets at Jazz at the Bistro.

    Tommy Halloran’s Guerrilla Swing

    Tommy-Halloran-e1385586324562   Tommy Halloran, one of the hardest working musicians in St. Louis, has put together a new quartet dubbed Guerrilla Swing, consisting of Mark Wallace on upright bass, Kristian Baarsvik on saxophones, Kaleb Kirby on drums, and Halloran on guitar and vocals. Guerrilla Swing pays homage to the great tradition that is jazz with their vintage swing sound, while simultaneously creating music that is relevant to our modern times. Their debut album is set for release in January 2014 thanks to crowd-sourced funding. style: traditional jazz with vocals
