Curriculum

One instructional method that is increasingly being incorporated into the school day is teaching with video. Today's children have grown up with television, and the technology may begin but certainly doesn't end there. With iPods, video games and DVD players in cars, kids are never far from visual stimulation. So, it is a natural step to include this in classroom curriculum. Filmstrips are outdated, though. Today's video is dynamic, interactive and closely aligned with State or National Standards.

With just a little research and creativity, teachers can find video on virtually any subject. Most HEC-TV programming is supported by curriculum, handouts and lesson plans created around the specific show. In addition to these materials, many of the National Series and Specials have curriculum that we make available to teachers. By going through our Education pages, teachers can plan and prepare to record specific programs that will enhance their lesson plans.

We use the major discipline designations that are recognized by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Communication Arts, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. All lessons align to the State Standards or GLEs for each discipline.
