Inside the Artist's Studio

HEC-TV, as an outgrowth of its mission statement, is supporting Inside the Artist’s Studio, a distance-learning education project designed to connect artists from Missouri to students across Missouri. Structured to provide student learning across the artistic disciplines of Music, Theatre and Visual Arts, the project takes students on virtual field trips enabling them to interact with artists in their own studios via live Internet web casts, videoconferences and broadcast live on HEC-TV. After its initial live presentation, each program is archived on the project’s website for on-demand viewing available at any time. The project website also includes learning activities, web resources and curriculum standards related to each program. Through this free, standards-based program, artists and educators will help students explore the questions:

What is art?
Why do people make art?
How is art created?
What does it mean to be an artist?
Why do the arts matter?

Inside the Artist’s Studio consists of three major components: live interactive programming, archived programming, and an interactive website. The project will offers several interactive programs throughout the school year, each of which will be offered via three methods of distance-learning technology: web cast, videoconference, and cable television. Each program will take students live to artists in their studio, workshop, rehearsal hall, theatre, etc. Subject matter for each program will focus on one of the project’s featured artistic disciplines: music, theatre, or visual arts. Programs will be sixty minutes in length and presented during regular school day hours.
